The 2022/23 season of LaLiga is over now, but if there's one spot on the pitch that has put on a show this year, it's the man who's there to stop the ball from going in - the goalkeeper. Marc-André ter Stegen, Thibaut Courtois, and Jan Oblak have a very legitimate claim for being the best goalkeepers in the world, and this year they've only further cemented that with more stellar performances. But the likes of Mamardashvilli, David Soria, Alex Remiro, and newcomer Rajkovic have shown that every stadium in LaLiga has a world-class shot-stopper keeping the nets safe and that cat-like reaction saves and high-flying fingertip stops will endure. The Best Saves LLG Challenge will take you across many of the great saves we witnessed this season in LaLiga Golazos. However, once again, it will be you, our community of LaLigAmigos that will decide which two saves out of three will be rewarded. Which one will you pick?
Jeremías Ledesma (Cádiz CF vs Valencia CF)
If you look up the definition of flying save, you can be sure that a picture of this Conan Ledesma will be right there next to it! With Valencia CF gunning for the late equalizer against Cádiz CF at the Nuevo Mirandilla, the Argentinian goalkeeper fired up his jetpack and flew to the top-right corner of his goal to push Diego López's header onto the crossbar and out for a corner. A crucial save in a match between two direct rivals for staying up, and one that would ultimately secure manager Sergio's team their spot in next season's LaLiga. Surely this Ledesma save deserves a spot in your collection of impossible LaLiga Golazos saves!
Jordi Masip (Valladolid CF vs RC Celta):
Saving a penalty is always one of football's most appreciated and spectacular actions when it comes to being a goalkeeper. But how often do you see a goalkeeper save two penalties in the same match? Masip takes it a step further... how many times do you see them do it twice in a row within a couple of minutes?! The Valladolid goalkeeper and captain gave us one of the most impressive displays of the season when he saved two Iago Aspas penalties in the space of a couple of minutes, leaving the RC Celta star in disarray. After stopping the Galician forward's first attempt, Jordi Masip saw the VAR order the kick to be taken after a teammate's encroachment, and so he was face to face with Aspas again. In a true battle of mind games, the Valladolid goalkeeper was a giant and stopped Aspas' second spot-kick in what is surely a moment of the season you will want to own in your LaLiga Golazos collection!
Iván Villar (RC Celta vs Girona FC):
An unexpected hero in Vigo - that's how we could describe the figure of Iván Villar, RC Celta's homegrown goalkeeper. After a year out on loan at Leganés, Villar returned to Vigo to play the role of backup goalkeeper to the newly-signed Marchesín. But when the Argentine goalkeeper got seriously injured in February, Iván Villar had to step up... and step up he did! His fantastic save in the dying moments of the match against Girona FC will forever be remembered in Balaídos. 5 minutes into injury time, and the ball falls to Roca's feet, who fires a curling shot that Villar stretches out to palm away. That save secured Carlos Carvalhal's men one point on the day, which became crucial in their fight for survival to keep RC Celta up. This one is flying straight into your LaLiga Golazos collection, isn't it?
